Data-based decision-making is declining — and FP&A is feeling the impact.
Presenting the 2025 FP&A Trends Survey, Michael Coveney, Analytics Thought Leader and Author and Head of Research at FP&A Trends Group, shared a striking finding: only 59% of organisations base most of their decisions on data.
Even more concerning, 10% still rely on little to no data at all.
Despite the rapid rise of new technologies, only 2% say their FP&A function is fully optimised. Most teams are still tied up in manual work and spreadsheets.
The survey points to five key areas that can help organisations improve:
- Integrated planning
- Scenario-ready forecasting
- Trusted data foundation
- Modern tech & analytics
- Skills and influence
With FP&A professionals still spending 46% of their time just collecting data, the urgency for change is clear.
