FP&A Trends Digest: Issue #71
Issue #71 - 10 September 2022

Dear colleagues,
American businessman Howard Schultz, a former CEO of Starbucks, said: “Success is best when it’s shared.”
While this is certainly true, I would go one step further. I would argue that success also becomes more likely when we share the tasks involved in making it happen.
With that in mind, this digest is centred around Collaborative FP&A. One of the hallmarks of modern Financial Planning and Analysis is the way it transcends finance to work with other functions. And while this collaboration is almost always fruitful, it is important to organise it wisely.
In this issue, we would like to highlight the way that finance can work together with supply chain, treasury and strategic planning functions. We have included a research paper on the top benefits of finance-forward supply chain planning; an article about business partnering between FP&A and treasury; a discussion of the relationship between operations and strategy; and a video case study of connected and collaborative planning.
At the bottom of the digest, you will find the details of two of our upcoming digital events. It would be great to see you there. Please, feel free to share the invitations to the webinars with your colleagues.
I hope that this digest leads to successes that can be shared amongst all who helped create them!

In this paper, CCH® Tagetik has identified the top 5 benefits of a finance-forward approach to supply chain.

The reality is, far too many of the strategies we implement suffer from the same fate, yielding outcomes that fall short of our original targets. Why is this? What can be done to prevent bad strategy, and why are we so surprised each and every time we repeat these same strategic mistakes? Find out the answers in this article from the Director of FP&A at Walmart.

Research shows that Finance functions spend only 19% of Analytics time on insight generation, and just 6% on driving actions. At Janssen EMEA, this was the case up until relatively recently. The organisation used to spend over 52 weeks on planning, but with an accuracy of only 92% – low when compared with the resources allocated. But using connected planning and predictive forecasting, Janssen EMEA succeeded in turning these numbers around. In this short presentation, Stéphanie Didier, the Senior Director of Finance and Treasury explains how.
