FP&A Trends Digest: Issue #170

FP&A Trends Digest
Issue #170 - 18 July 2026

Dear colleagues,

In our AI FP&A Committee, the same moment keeps recurring. Someone shows how AI can produce an answer in minutes. Then the room asks the harder question: would you sign it?

That question sits at the centre of this issue. The 2026 FP&A Trends Survey finds that almost every FP&A professional now expects AI to affect the role, yet only 19% have formal AI policies in place, and trusted data, decision ownership and judgement remain uneven. AI does not remove these gaps. It raises the cost of them.

This is why our featured white paper matters. Finance in the Age of AI shows how quickly platform expectations are shifting, with finance leaders now wanting AI embedded in forecasting, analysis and everyday decisions, and 66% likely to invest in a new or upgraded platform within 18 months. The survey shows the readiness question beneath that ambition. The articles then examine what must sit around an AI signal before it becomes a decision, and where judgement must stay human. The practitioner video brings it into a small team supporting 14 very different businesses.

AI can produce an answer. Finance still has to decide whether it is trusted, challenged and acted on.

Warm regards,

Larysa Melnychuk, CEO and Founder

Finance in the Age of AI

Faster reporting is now the baseline expectation. What finance leaders want next is AI embedded in forecasting, analysis and everyday decisions, with 66% likely to invest in a new or upgraded platform within 18 months. The real shift the paper describes is not more automation, but better decisions.

AI in FP&A: From Analytical Signals to Management Decisions
By Andreas Seufert, Professor and Co-Chair of the AI FP&A Committee

A faster signal is not a faster decision. AI can surface a risk earlier, but someone still has to trust it, challenge it and own the response. The article maps the decision system that turns analytical output into accountable action, and shows why speed without that architecture just creates more unanswered questions.

AI in FP&A: The Line Between Automation and Judgement
By Adinath Kadam, FP&A Systems Architect at Pets Best Insurance Services

AI earns its place on data and throughput. It cannot read market emotion or vouch for its own conclusions. The teams that struggle are those that hand the whole process to a platform and end up owning answers no one can stand behind. This article draws the line: automate the preparation, keep the judgement.

Bridging Today and Tomorrow
By Adam Hancock, VP FP&A at EBSCO Industries

A small corporate team supports 14 businesses across very different industries, applying AI to specific problems rather than one grand programme. An agent now distils a book-length board commentary in minutes; a correlation engine reads demand from external data. What sets the ceiling is not ambition but data readiness, security and ROI.
