Rolling Forecast: 7 Factors for Success

The concept of a Rolling Forecast is a hot topic in FP&A at the moment. Many companies attempt to implement it, but not all of them are successful. Statistics suggest that one in five of the organisations that implemented rolling forecasts recently have since abandoned them, because they proved to be more complex than initially expected. Additionally, they didn’t find enough value in this tool to continue using it.

However, a Rolling Forecast can be a powerful tool for FP&A if used correctly..

London FP&A Board: Moving FP&A toward Advanced Analytics

Nearly every financial planning and analysis professional understands the need to embrace big data and analytics. But how can firms move beyond basics to advanced analytics?

That challenge was on every attendee’s mind at the recent FP&A advisory board meeting in London. There, FP&A and business intelligence professionals gathered to discuss the state of business intelligence (BI) and FP&A analytics with Nigel Geary, BI specialist at power utility British Gas.

“I want to understand what’s considered advanced analytics and what’s considered basic,” one attendee said. “I’m trying to understand what good organizations are doing with regard to applying best practices. To me, it feels that it’s in its infancy.”

London FP&A Board: Insight Management Puts Data to Use

The FP&A Board met for the third time in London on 1 May  2014. The  discussion was focused on how best to generate insights from data and ensure staff have the people skills to communicate data in a way that generates insights.

Steve Wills, Director of Insight Management Institute and the guest speaker,  stated that Insight and Insight Management are about understanding a company's information needs and then managing the way in which information flows through the organisation so that it has a positive effect. It’s about getting the right information to the right people, at the right time and in the right format to drive change. It isn’t about production but stakeholder management, issue analysis, journalistic skills and much more"

Insight Management  delivers the true value to the business and not just a one-off nugget of information. And FP&A have a definite role to play in organisational Insight Management framework.
